While an increasing number of people switch from Google Maps to Waze for alternative routes to beat the traffic, Google Maps recently decided to win back their users with an exciting new feature in their mobile app.
Nintendo and Google partnered up to bring Mario to Google Maps on iOS and Android in celebration of Mario Day. The app now allows the user to switch to ‘Mario Time’, wherein, the famous game character - Mario, in his kart would drive around the map instead of the usual navigation arrow. The marketing campaign proved to be a pleasant, nostalgic surprise for many users - pulling them back to Google Maps.
Though Google Maps’ quirky campaign does drive users to their app, would it be enough to convert Waze users?
